Most couples desire to establish a happy home. For George and Amber Thomas, the happiest homes are also the most functional and in good repair. And they have made that their business.

The Thomases, who married in 2022, fell in love with Fannin County while on vacation from Florida. A year ago, they moved to the area and opened House Doctors of North Georgia, based in Blue Ridge. There are approximately 80 House Doctors franchises in the U.S.

House Doctors provides a variety of maintenance and repair services as well as kitchen and bathroom remodeling.

“We work as team in this business,” Amber Thomas said. “George serves as the general manager and I am the president. He is an engineer with a great knowledge of project management. He is an expert in managing a wide variety of projects, from remodeling kitchens to cleaning gutters, building and staining a deck to small handyman projects such as hanging a ceiling fan. He does the estimates and operations while I handle the sales and marketing.”

While offering a wide variety of services, large and small, House Doctors does not replace roofs or electric panels. The Thomases currently have five full time, skilled employees.

Among the advantages of homeowners using House Doctors is the increased confidence of knowing who is going to be working inside your home. Employees of the company undergo background checks and are fully licensed and insured.

One of the unique services offered by House Doctors is helping seniors who want to “age in place.”

“We’ll do a full assessment of a home to see what we can do to make seniors safe and more comfortable,” George Thomas said. “We might suggest improved lighting and putting handrails on both sides of a staircase and taping down throw rugs.

“For people who might be suffering with symptoms of dementia, it might be as simple as swapping out handled doorknobs for round ones, so it is more difficult for someone to get out.”

In other cases, George Thomas says, they can offer options for adding a bedroom on the main floor or widening doorways to improve accessibility.

“We are always seeking alternatives to keep people aging gracefully their homes with loved ones and not in a nursing home.”

Amber added, “Being a part of and contributing to the community is very important to us. We love calling Blue Ridge, Georgia, our home. We want to be here for our fellow residents.”
