FCDA loves interns!!

Coming from a campus recruiting background, when I started my job with the FCDA over six years ago, the first thing I asked is if I could have an intern!!  Today, I sent off my third intern, Cady Finley, to Auburn University, and I welcomed Reagan York to my office.

As a one-woman show, help is ALWAYS appreciated.  But, admittedly, my favorite part of having an intern is witnessing and participating in such an exciting time in a young person’s life.  We work through college applications together.  We write scholarship letters.  We practice phone calls or interviews.  I love to help develop the youth.

Part of developing is educating about how a community works – this is what economic development might look like and this is county government.  We explore challenges.  We talk about why we have certain businesses or not.  Having been out of high school for over a decade, my interns keep me connected to what’s going on in a young person’s world these days.  I LEARN TOO!!  How do high school students communicate with each other?  What can businesses do to attract young people?  If you’ve ever considered getting an intern, just do it.  I’ve loved every minute of working with the youth.  It’s well worth the time and investment!

Cady Finley has been interning with the FCDA for over two years.  This internship provided Cady with insight into the business world, as she wishes to pursue a career in business.  Attending conferences, making presentations, and meeting community/business leaders has provided Cady with the knowledge and skills that she will need as she goes to college and furthermore, into the business industry.  In August 2021, Cady will be attending The University of Auburn majoring in business analytics and minoring in marketing. 

Taking over Cady’s role, Reagan York has hit the ground running.   She is a current senior at Fannin County High School and participates in the Work-Based Learning Program.  She is a member of the Lady Rebels basketball and volleyball teams.  Reagan plans to continue her education after high school and is still exploring her options for the future.
